Happy Friday to you!

We had an amazingly gorgeous day today in SF. I hope you had a beautiful day, too. I had a quick lunch with old friends near Chinatown so I popped over there for a few minutes to grab some tea. Even though we live about 2 miles from Chinatown I’m not often there. It’s such a lovely neighborhood – the biggest Chinatown in the US (I think). And it’s total visual overload for photographers – not to mention all the props you can acquire there. I picked up some Buckwheat tea at Blest Tea (like genmai cha but with buckwheat – delicious) and one of these cute egg shapers that I’ve seen on a few blogs lately. They are meant for kid’s bento boxes in Japan but fun for all ages don’t you think?

After a million other errands I finally ended up back at the studio processing files. I opened my Europe folder and got a tinge of sadness missing my European travel companions. My mom, sister, and niece Elsa all live on the East Coast in Pennsylvania. I wish they were much, much closer. I adored our girls trip to Europe and would encourage you to leave the men at home sometimes and travel with the ladies in your family. It was such an incredible trip and I hope we do it again.

Do you travel with family often? I hope to blog a little more about that trip one day soon…waiting for a rainy day.

It feels like I’m swimming in images from my trip to Europe and somehow I wished I had shot even more (not possible). I’m so excited to share but can hardly figure out how to bundle it all up. I’m busy getting shoots out to clients first but in the meantime enjoy this triptych of Elsa. She had more energy during our trip than all of us combined; climbing, hopping, and flipping her way through the Loire Valley chateaus. I wish I had an ounce of her energy, don’t you?

p.s.I am loving the scans from Richards Photo Lab in LA. They are perfect and save me hours and hours of post-production. Merci beaucoup, RPL!

Hi there!

I’m still feeling quite jetlagged – was up at 4am today and couldn’t fall back to sleep – but I’m happy to be home and share a bit more about my travels.

First things first, I’m on two blogs from my time in Europe: first Milk Magazine posted a quick summary about my time in their offices (it’s in French!) and secondly Gabrielle of DesignMom posted some behind the scenes images from our shoot. Her kids were so incredible. I adore them! Please head over there and read what her six year old, Oscar said to me as I left. He’s such a sweetheart.

Hello there! My apologies for the lack of posts. Besides the occasional tweet here and there I’ve been mostly untethered for the last three weeks (what a wonderful feeling, btw). I’m wrapping up my European trip this coming week and I’m sad to go home but also so thankful for all the wonderful experiences I had this month! I can’t wait to share more with you – especially the photographs.

Today was an extra special day because I spent four hours in Normandy with the Blair family of DesignMom. It was such a lovely experience and I am completely and utterly smitten with the Blair kids – all six of them. A big thanks to Ralph, Maude, Olive, Oscar, Betty, and baby June…and of course their mom and dad. I’m really excited to see our film from today.

Technical fail: I’m traveling with my iPad and can’t figure out how to post photos to the blog. Therefore: Follow me on twitter to see some recent photos from my travels.

out of the office // frolicking through Europe

Hi there! A couple of things:

I’m headed to Europe this week and I am so very excited. Katie will be running the studio while I’m gone and keeping up our Facebook page so please head over there. Onto the good stuff:

First, I’ll be in Germany to visit some dear friends and their kiddos. Let’s hope my German language skills kick into high gear when I step off the plane. Oh and they tell me we’re going to a Fairy Cave (what’s that?) and to a special liquid, sound spa. Wie bitte? ;]

Then I’m off to Paris to photograph the Milk Magazine office! I can’t wait to meet everyone behind this incredible kids magazine.

Eventually, I’ll end up in Normandy to spend a day with the extraordinary family which makes up DesignMom. Gabrielle and Ben Blair have six incredible kids and I can’t wait to meet them in their Normandy home, La Cressonniere. I’ve been studying all of their names and interests and can’t wait to spend a little time with each kid and of course as a family. We’re shooting on film so wish me luck! Isn’t this photo of them lovely (see below). They’ve added baby June since then, adorable!

These are sweet and kids would love them. I just discovered the work of The Giharakeitarou on the Japanese website Gallery Speak For. The have a unique selection of paintings, drawings, clothing, goods, and books. If you don’t read Japanese make sure you view through Google translate.

somewhere in Normandy // travel

I had to renew my passport this morning. It made me a little sad to see ten years go by so quickly. Although I will say my photo this morning was a big improvement on my photo in 2000. I could pass for a German terrorist in that photo – yikes!

I can’t wait to experience this place in Normandy. It’s one of the many places we are staying during the trip. I love the tapestry and the gigantic yard. It looks so medieval.

in love with linen // clothing for travel

As you might already know I’m headed to Europe for most of May. I’ll be lugging around one very heavy rolley-bag with just gear. Therefore I’m trying to limit the amount of clothing I bring to one small bag, (gulp). I love this idea in theory but I’m not sure I can pull this off. I typically over-pack because I like having options especially when weather is unpredictable. I’m basically going to try and bring three outfits that can be accessorized to change the look up. If you have any tips please let me know. I need help!

I think linen would be a great choice to help me pack lightly. Linen is breathable, looks good even when wrinkled, it’s durable, and washes easily. Here are a few things I found. I’m loving this etsy seller in China with affordable prices, lovely designs, and everything seems to be custom made. Wow.

Do you have any good sources for linen clothing? I would also love this EmersonMade Linen Topper Coat in my wardrobe. Regan bought it and it looks amazing.

thinking of Paris // Summer travel

It’s sort of shocking to admit but I have never been to Paris. I’ve been to the Middle East, spent a year in Berlin, six months on the west coast of Ireland, and even dipped myself into the Blue Lagoon in Iceland…but never Paris. I’m excited to say I’m spending a majority of May in Europe and I’ll finally be in Paris. This is our apartment in the Montorgueil Etienne Marcel in the heart of Paris. Isn’t it awesome? We found it on AirBnb.

I’ll have a limited number of shoots available while I’m in Germany and France. I’ll do another post with a few more details. I’d love to photograph your family. Please contact the studio if you’re interested.

Hello there. I’ve been on the road for a little over a week (apologies if you’re waiting to hear from me). I’ve had a little family time mixed with a few really special shoots. One in particular was baby Whistler in Chicago. Whistler’s parents are dear friends of mine (and the husband) and we have been so happy to welcome him into the world. I can’t wait to share more!
