little miss Arabel, traveling sessions, Chicago | modern kids photographer

I have the wonderful opportunity of traveling to Chicago to shoot a few times per year, among other cities. If it’s a wintertime shoot I am usually a little obsessed with the weather the week before I arrive as anyone who has lived there will tell you winter weather can be unpredictable. On my last trip in late November we lucked out with an unseasonably warm weekend. I have a bunch of shoots to share from that trip that I will intersperse with Bay area shoots over the next few weeks. I’ll be posting more frequently so please stay tuned.

A gigantic thanks to Anne, Ryan, and especially Miss Arabel for a really lovely afternoon. We started at home where I got to see Arabel’s wonderful personality. She was giving me hugs within a few minutes of meeting her which is always a good sign of a great shoot. After we shot for about 45 minutes at home Anne and Ryan took us all to a perfect location nearby. We were greeted by really spectacular late afternoon winter light, mix that with a really handsome and fun family and well that’s my favorite way to shoot. Enjoy and let me know your thoughts!

If you’ve been following me on twitter, you’ll remember that I was super excited to be photographing the Great-granddaughter of the Gerber baby. I was so thrilled to finally meet little Cora Margarita on Labor Day. Cora and her family were so much fun during our walk on top of Bernal Hill and so incredibly helpful.

Grandma took a few photos of me in action with the help of at least four assistants (1. baby talker/mom 2. baby spotter/dad 3. first assistant with light reflector/grandpa 4. baby’s personal assistant/uncle). I will hopefully be sharing the full post soon including some shots of us in action.

For now, enjoy a little series of Cora and her dad that I’m titling, “Chomp!”. Dad was actually in some pain after this shot. I’m surprised she didn’t draw any blood. So funny!

Remember little Esme? I photographed her a few days after she was born (look up to my blog header, she’s in black and white and is adorable). She’s already six months old! I can hardly believe it. She’s as beautiful as ever.

Lucian: A Year in the Life

One of my Year in the Life sessions for 2009 is baby Lucian. I had the pleasure of meeting him when he was just over a week old. He’s grown so much! This was our second session of the year and the third will be coming up soon. I can’t wait to see how much he’s grown. We started inside and did some shots with dad before he left for work and then we headed outside for a few more. Enjoy some of my favorites.

Thanks to Julie, Matt, and especially Lucian for two very fun shoots this year. I’m looking forward to more as well as his Year in the Life book at the end of the year.
