Wow. It’s been a much busier season than I would have ever expected. I’m so grateful for all of the business this year and most importantly getting to spend time with so many amazing kids and famillies. This week I’m shooting in Chicago and St. Louis and then back to San Francisco for a bunch more shoots before the end of the holiday season. This weekend while shooting the first shoot of a Belly + Baby session, I was reminded how much I like simple, straight portraits. No fancy angles, clever props or juxtapositions, just pure, simple, straight portraits. I should say it helps to have a subject who is incredibly natural in front of the camera. Allison and her husband Keith were just that. I rarely had to ask them to do anything and shooting in the comfort of their gorgeously lit home made it even easier.

why i love my job | modern kids photographer, san francisco bay area, east bay, oakland, rockridge

There are literally hundreds of reasons why I love my job. One of the biggest reasons is that I get to meet so many wonderful families. Whether they are about to have their first child, welcoming their 2nd child, or just celebrating their family by having me document them on a typical Sunday morning, I am always so happy to be a part of it all.

Case in point, late last year I donated a portrait session for a local school fundraiser in the East Bay and met a truly wonderful family. Three photos sessions later and a trip to my parents farm in Pennsylvania (yes they were on the East Coast and actually visited me on the farm!) they just welcomed their new baby girl, Malaya. This morning I was there to document this tiny creature and her big brother Stinson and it was such a joy to see everyone and of course this new (and quite beautiful) baby. I can’t wait to share the images with this family (and you too). Please check back soon for a plethora of shoots including baby Malaya’s.

Melinda caught a few photos of me with the kids and Bob took a few with my camera. This is why I love my job, check out these cute kids!

a little rocker, welcome baby Sid | Sneak Peek | San Francisco modern kids photographer

You might remember one of my favorite belly sessions this summer, Cynthia, two year old Chloe, and Mike in the Mission. We walked down Clarion Alley, then to Bi-Rite for some yummy ice cream, then ended our session in Dolores Park. You can see that shoot by clicking here. I was so delighted when Cynthia contacted me a few days ago to let me know that baby Sid had arrived. Yesterday, I spent a few hours with them and was so happy to meet this little rocker. Is it just me or does it look like baby Sid had a late night partying like a rock star?
