I’ve been excited to share this shoot with you for a little while. A few weekends ago I was photographing in lovely, Santa Barbara, California. One of my shoots was an incredibly gorgeous, kind-hearted, and talented fellow photographer, named Brit Mann and her charming and helpful photo-assisting husband, Grant. They are expecting the arrival of what-is-sure-to-be an amazingly gorgeous baby girl. I felt honored to photograph them during such a special time.

Since my trip to Santa Barbara was both business and pleasure, I dragged along one of my childhood bffs, Tara, to assist me with B&G’s shoot. Thank you Tara for being an excellent assistant and location scout. ;]

I’m the variety of photographer who loves to be busy and shoot all of the time. Throughout the year I have so many lovely shoots. There is however a small percentage of those shoots that are really quite perfect; meaning great light, great location, wonderful couple/family/kid who are in a receptive and happy mood. B&G’s shoot was one of those shoots for me. Thank you to Brit & Grant for such a lovely couple of hours. I’ll be thinking of you as you welcome your baby girl in to the world.

I hope you’re enjoying Halloween today by stuffing your face with with treats. I wanted to share a few images from a recent East Bay shoot with Sasha and her little sister, Delaney.

A year ago I had the pleasure of photographing Sasha’s 2nd birthday. It was a fun, kid-filled event full of costumes and Halloween-inspired cupcakes. I was really excited to see the girls again and even though I see it all the time, I’m amazed how fast kids grow! Enjoy a few photos of these incredibly cute girls!

allison + keith, favs | modern belly + baby photographer, san francisco

Enjoy a few of my favs from a recent belly + baby session with two wonderful, soon-to-be parents Allison + Keith. We started at their lovely home in Potrero Hill then took a little stroll around our shared neighborhood. The early morning light was perfect. I took advantage of the harsh shadows downstairs and muted light upstairs (thanks to Keith for assisting with my light discs like a real pro).

It was the best kind of session; beautiful light, gorgeous and relaxed subjects, and a lovely stroll. I can hardly wait to meet their little one.

For the photogs: shot at iso 250 outdoors and 320-400 indoors. Lit with a few different sizes of light discs and the help of the dad-to-be. For the shadow images, I exposed for the highlights. Processed by adjusting levels as well as various combinations and low opacity of TRA’s clarify, autumn, winter, highlight separator, homestead (not all at once). I also used Exposure’s daugerrotye on the super-grainy b+w. Sounds like a lot but was super low-opactiy.

This weekend while shooting the first shoot of a Belly + Baby session, I was reminded how much I like simple, straight portraits. No fancy angles, clever props or juxtapositions, just pure, simple, straight portraits. I should say it helps to have a subject who is incredibly natural in front of the camera. Allison and her husband Keith were just that. I rarely had to ask them to do anything and shooting in the comfort of their gorgeously lit home made it even easier.
