We shot about 6 rolls of medium format film at her home in Santa Barbara. The light was best in the kitchen and somehow that seems fitting when thinking about the importance of food during pregnancy. Enjoy.

Since my trip to Santa Barbara was both business and pleasure, I dragged along one of my childhood bffs, Tara, to assist me with B&G’s shoot. Thank you Tara for being an excellent assistant and location scout. ;]

I’m the variety of photographer who loves to be busy and shoot all of the time. Throughout the year I have so many lovely shoots. There is however a small percentage of those shoots that are really quite perfect; meaning great light, great location, wonderful couple/family/kid who are in a receptive and happy mood. B&G’s shoot was one of those shoots for me. Thank you to Brit & Grant for such a lovely couple of hours. I’ll be thinking of you as you welcome your baby girl in to the world.

Hope you’re all enjoying the weekend. Here in California the weather is so incredibly gorgeous. I cannot wait for daylight savings time to begin…more hours in the day to shoot!

Joe and I have been reminded of all the blessings in our lives and for me, one of those things is my job. I meet the most incredible people all over the country and spend my days celebrating the joy and wonder of childhood. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do.

My very first day of shooting happened to be three 7 month old boys in a row, not sure how I planned it that way but it was the perfect re-introduction. I absolutely love the age before a little one goes mobile either expert crawling or full-fledge walking. It varies for every kid but the sweet spots seems to be between 6-9mos. I encourage everyone with little ones to photograph around that time – even though there isn’t an obvious milestone. Here’s one little guy from my first day back. I’ll be sharing the rest very soon.

TECHNICAL NOTE: I was shooting in the back of the house with very little natural light. I had set up a strobe so I could get both boys sitting up on the bed (yes this little guy is a twin – can’t wait to share images of the two of them) but took a few w/o the strobe to take advantage of the lovely, low light. ISO 250, f3.5 at 1/50.

Without further ado, enjoy some images from little Eve’s shoot in San Francisco. While you might have noticed I love finding fun and unique locations, sometimes just being at home can be an effortless and magical place to photograph. This was the case when photographing Eve. I absolutely adore this little lady. For one she has an amazingly sophisticated haircut for her age and I’ve never seen the range of expressions in one little person before. If “acting is reacting” then I think Eve has a future on stage.

Thanks to Misty, Justen, Papa Don, and especially Eve for a lovely morning….and for the yummy breakfast (I love photographing for fellow foodies).

It was the best kind of session; beautiful light, gorgeous and relaxed subjects, and a lovely stroll. I can hardly wait to meet their little one.

For the photogs: shot at iso 250 outdoors and 320-400 indoors. Lit with a few different sizes of light discs and the help of the dad-to-be. For the shadow images, I exposed for the highlights. Processed by adjusting levels as well as various combinations and low opacity of TRA’s clarify, autumn, winter, highlight separator, homestead (not all at once). I also used Exposure’s daugerrotye on the super-grainy b+w. Sounds like a lot but was super low-opactiy.
