Five examples of hanging kids artwork at home // inspiration

Happy Monday, everybody. I saw the new Rue Magazine last week and loved the big, bright kids artwork on the wall in image #3 below. I thought I’d grab a few more examples for you.

1. Kids art doesn’t have to be limited to the drawing and painting variety. These giant images look like they could have been self-portraits. Found over here: Lonny Mag

2. I always love seeing framed pieces in front of bookshelves but can someone tell me if the bookshelf remains functional? Found this one here.

3. This is a fab kids room featured in the most recent Rue Magazine, here. I love the simple, white frames on the over-sized paintings to the left. You can never go wrong with white.

4. Another lovely space via Lonny Mag. This one looks casual but I bet there was some thought on pulling this together, notice the greens and pinks.

5. This wall gallery is by Hugo Guinness, found here but I love the haphazard and an all wood look. It’s almost like a child hung this themselves. Ok, maybe with a little help. :]

I’m finally climbing back on top of my to-do list. What a busy year! Now that I’m feeling back on top of things (more or less) I thought I’d share this fitting image of Sloan & Caroline photographed recently on top of their playhouse. Don’t worry, no children were injured in the making of these images (teehee). Thanks to Sloan & Caroline for being such good sports! Aren’t they adorable?

I hope you had a lovely holiday weekend wherever you may be. I’m prepping today for a commercial shoot with another excellent kids company. In the meantime enjoy a recent portrait session in Chicago, IL with baby Ned. This little guy was such a great subject. His parents are lovely people and fed me some delicious chocolate croissants and coffee. Their home is amazing and incredibly unique. I hope to share more soon.

I’ll be out of the office the rest of the week. I’ll be checking in most evenings but bare with me until I’m back online again on Friday.

Hi there!

It’s been a busy week. I’m in LA photographing kids in the Modern Family Zone of the Dwell on Design conference. If you’re headed to the event, please stop by! My friend Stephanie Howard and I are photographing kids all weekend long. We’re lucky to be next to great companies such as Paul Frank and IdeaPaint, not to mention Greg Fleishman’s Playgoda and tons of great kid’s furniture.

Wow. I’m really enjoying reading about the family behind Sixx Design in NYC, found this morning via Liz Stanley. What amazing talent and style they have for making a modern home with kids. Anyone who can have seven kids and survive several house renovations is my hero. These people must be super-human or just incredibly awesome. Oh and they just published a book, buy it here.

I grabbed a few images from the recent New York Times article, click here to read it and listen to the audio slideshow, photography by Michael Weschler. I love that the home has a wonderful balance between the adult world and the world of kids and it’s full of lovely surprises (especially their lighting fixtures).

wall frames, inspiration | modern family photographer, san francisco

Last week I was helping my clients Bess + Camille create a wall of prints for their home to celebrate their pregnancy and their adorable son, Caleb. I was excited that they chose a bunch of mismatched frames in black and silver. We’re still working on the wall gallery but I promise to share once it’s complete (with Bess + Camille’s permission of course).

It got me thinking about how much I love a really well-done gallery in the home. It’s hard to pull off but it’s so worth the effort. A very talented designer and good friend of mine (Lezlie) in Chicago has a beautiful wall of photography, painting, and drawing that I admire every time I’m in her perfectly decorated home. Right now Joe and I are without finished walls (under renovation) but the studio could use some fall/winter sprucing up. Attached are a few images I found quickly as inspiration. Images found on Apartment Therapy, Flickr, Mark Lund Photography, and West Elm. Enjoy.
