Modern Kids Photography Blog bio picture

hello + welcome

Modern Kids Photography focuses on the wonder, complexity, and joy of childhood.

My name is Sarah Wert and I am the primary photographer and owner of Modern Kids Photography, San Francisco. While everyone loves a smiling kid, that's not always what I look for. Children express themselves through many incredible emotions and I'm interested in capturing all their moods and unique personality traits. My goal is to give you not only a fun and enjoyable family photography session but to make unexpected, and indelible imagery you will never forget.

I'm on the road many times during the year. Contact me to inquire about my travel schedule, to book your portrait session, or just to say hello. I would love to hear from you!

little Eve at home in San Francisco | modern baby photographer, San Francisco

Hello again. I’m sitting in my sister-in-law’s house in Southern Illinois, having finally come up for air after an incredibly busy season. Thanks again to all of the amazing families and kids I worked with this year. I can’t believe the year went by so quickly. It was my first full year in business and it was way more exciting, challenging, chaotic, and fun than I could have ever imagined. I re-branded in the beginning of the year to Modern Kids Photography, got a tiny but totally sufficient studio of my own, worked with tons of great assistants, spent long nights in the studio (apologies to my husband), and had so much fun photographing all of the country. I can hardly wait for 2010.

This week I’m shooting in Chicago and St. Louis and then back to San Francisco for the a bunch more shoots before the end of the holiday season. Please stay tuned here for more info on holiday ordering, some unique gift certificates, and more!

Sarah Louise, sneak peek | modern kids photographer, san francisco

It’s been so busy over here with non-stop shooting, placing orders, and bookmaking. In fact I’m headed out the door in a few moments to do a family session. We are starting in Noe Valley and jumping on the train and to the Ferry Building and Taylor’s Refresher…so very San Francisco and so very fun!

Sasha & Delaney, fall family session | modern family photographer, san francisco

I hope you’re enjoying Halloween today by stuffing your face with some treats. I wanted to share a few frames from a recent East Bay shoot with Sasha and her little sister, Delaney.

A year ago I had the pleasure of photographing Sasha’s 2nd birthday; a fun, kid-filled event full of costumes and Halloween-inspired cupcakes. I was really excited to see the girls again and even though I see it all the time, I’m amazed how fast kids grow! Enjoy a few photos of these incredibly cute girls!

chomp! | modern kids photographer, san francisco

If you’ve been following me on twitter, you’ll remember that I was super excited to be photographing the Great-granddaughter of the Gerber baby. I was so thrilled to finally meet little Cora Margarita on Labor Day. Cora and her family were so much fun during our walk on top of Bernal Hill and so incredibly helpful. Grandma took a few photos of me in action with the help of at least four assistants (1. baby talker 2. baby spotter 3. first assistant with light reflector 4. baby’s personal assistant). I will hopefully be sharing the full post soon including some shots of us in action.

baby Esme, sneak peek | modern kids photographer, san francisco, mission, dolores park

Remember little Esme? I photographed her a few days after she was born (look up to my blog header, she’s in black and white and is adorable). She’s already six months old! I can hardly believe it. She’s as beautiful as ever.
